This bird house is designed for both Saw-whet owls and Blue Jays. The Saw-whet Owl, which is one of the smallest species of owls native to North America. These nesting boxes are meant to simulate the natural tree cavities in which the Saw-whet owls nest, cache food and raise their young. They prefer thickly treed coniferous or mixed forest areas. Mount the house at a height of 8-15 feet in a quiet wooded area where the owl can easily hunt. Blue Jays prefer birdhouses that are sturdy and spacious. Mount the house 8-15 feet above the ground in a shaded area, preferably a tree or post. Adding nearby feeders with peanuts and sunflower seeds also attract Blue Jays to your birdhouse.
